Amalfi Coast Day Tour on Tripadvisor

Best Spots for Instagram on the Amalfi Coast

Our top picks for the most beautiful spots along the Amalfi Coast to snap that perfect pic!

Best spots for Instagram

The Amalfi Coast is one of the most photographed stretches of coastline in the world. You have definitely admired snapshots of this breathtaking corner of Italy on your Instagram or Facebook feed, with gorgeous views of the shimmering Mediterranean Sea, the majestic Duomo in Amalfi, the colorful beach in Positano, or the Infinity Terrace in Ravello.

Would you like the best views for your own Instagram feed? Do you want to make your friends green with envy on Facebook? Or do you just want some fabulous snapshots to remember your time visiting the coast with family or friends? You’ve come to the right place…we’ve listed the best spots to take the must-have Amalfi Coast pictures, so you can organize a “photo tour” that rivals even the most famous influencers online.

Here’s a list of the most beautiful spots on the Amalfi Coast for taking photos

Instagram Atrani

The beach of Atrani

Atrani won’t be the first place which comes to mind when you think of Italian beach resorts. But it is the place you should visit if you want to find out what Italy is truly all about. Even though Atrani is just a short drive away from Amalfi, the famous and bustling holiday spot, it remains unspoiled by mass tourism and is one of Italy’s best-kept secrets.

Atrani is a coastal fishing village with a population of less than one thousand. It nestles in the divide of two steep cliffs on the shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its tier upon tier of multi-colored houses rises above a beautiful stretch of pristine sand. It is one of the most idyllic and picturesque settings in Italy.

Unchanged by the passing of time, Atrani is a place just waiting to be explored. You can climb the steps up from the beach level and wander through the narrow, winding streets. There you’ll discover thirteenth-century baroque churches and piazzas with spurting fountains. Be able to listen to the tolling of the bell from the sixteenth-century tower as it chimes and breaks the quiet of the siesta hour. Ponder life over a drink on a cafe terrace in Piazza Umberto, the main square. If you have that uncanny feeling of deja vu while you’re there, don’t be surprised. Atrani’s scenic streets and stunning coast have been the chosen location for numerous films.

Duomo of Sant'Andrea photo opportunity

The staircase of the Duomo of Sant’Andrea (St. Andrew)

On the second day of our self-guided walking holiday on the Amalfi Coast, you descend on foot from the heights of Ravello into the town of Amalfi and soon find yourself in the central piazza, dominated by the world-renowned Cathedral of Saint Andrea, otherwise known as the Duomo of Amalfi.

Standing at the base of the broad, tall staircase, you’re likely to notice a number of odd features. First is the staircase itself. Very few churches in Italy boast such a monumental means of access. Typically, a temple or cathedral might have a few steps up to the central portal, the Duomo of Florence being a good example. Not even the Basilica of Saint Peter in Rome has such a tall and steep stairway as does Amalfi’s Duomo. The reason is that the church was constructed on a relatively high hill overlooking the rest of the town. This was in order to offer shelter to the citizens of Amalfi during an era characterized by frequent pirate raids and attacks by rival city states. During that period, the staircase did not exist in its present form, and was added later once the threats had diminished.

Another notable feature is the intricately arched portico topped by a gable with a polychrome mosaic that looks distinctly Byzantine. Influences from the east don’t stop there. Topping the bell-tower on the left is a construction which, if you squint right, could easily stand in as a medieval church from the Levant. Inside, Moorish influences abound, especially in the exquisitely carved columns and interwoven arches of the Cloister of Paradise, which was originally established as a cemetery for the more illustrious citizens of the city.

Positano

Photo opportunity in Positano for Instagram or other social medias

Cascading down towards the sea shore with houses seemingly stacked over across the hill is what this small yet captivating village of Positano looks like. Located in the southern coast of Italy, this romantic town is absolutely surreal with steep narrow roads, colourful houses, classic Italian infrastructure and a sunset drawn straight from the heart of paradise. A major attraction to the affluent, the town in all its rustic glory is a treat for travellers who fancy quaint and aesthetic features with some soul-searching endeavours.

Positano faces the sea and waves hello to the majestic sun with matching elements lining up the curvy interiors of the town. The island may be small but the impression it leaves behind on a tourist is certainly not. An ideal spring vacation spot, I say, every traveller needs to foray into this coastal village and explore the enclave Italian authenticity.

Imagine staring at two vertical cliffs, both stacked up with cute pastel coloured houses all the way to the top, beautiful boutique hotels, luscious greens and bright bougainvilleas wrapping up the path, tourists galloping away on these slopes slurping a gelato and some local coffee, stores selling linen outfits, beach wear and luxe fashion, artisan sandal shops lined along the way down, art galleries brimming with talent and a buzzing pebbled beach right in the middle of these cliffs decked with retro striped Italian umbrellas. This town is straight out of Pinterest!
